Telur Ceplok Kecap: A Flavorful Indonesian Delight

Ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 shallots
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 5 Thai bird chilies
  • 1 tomato
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Eggs: Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Fry each egg individually until the whites are set and the yolks are cooked to your preference. Remove the eggs from the pan and set them aside. Once slightly cooled, cut each egg in half.

  2. Prepare the Aromatics: Finely slice the shallots, garlic, Thai bird chilies, and tomato.

  3. Cook the Aromatics: In the same pan, add a bit of oil if needed. Sauté the sliced shallots, garlic, chilies, and tomato over medium heat until they become fragrant and slightly caramelized.

  4. Add Seasonings: Pour in a generous amount of sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) to taste, followed by a splash of water to create a flavorful sauce. Season with salt and pepper according to your preference.

  5. Combine and Simmer: Gently add the fried eggs into the pan, ensuring they are well coated with the sauce. Allow the eggs to simmer in the sauce for a few minutes so they absorb the flavors.

  6. Adjust and Serve: Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the telur ceplok kecap hot, either on its own or with a side of steamed rice.

Enjoy this delectable Indonesian dish that beautifully combines the rich flavors of sweet soy sauce with the satisfying texture of fried eggs. Happy cooking! 😊
