Grilled Catfish with Sweet Soy Sauce (Lele Bakar Kecap)

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Medium catfish (without head) 500 grams
Instant fried fish seasoning To taste
Garlic 2 cloves
Ground black pepper To taste
Palm sugar To taste
Sweet soy sauce To taste
Cooking oil A little
Vinegar To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Rinse the catfish thoroughly (without the head) and marinate it in vinegar or lime juice. If using a larger catfish (about the size of your arm), cut it into 1-inch thick pieces; if using medium-sized catfish, you can leave them whole.

  2. Seasoning: Rub the fish with instant fried fish seasoning and let it rest for 10 minutes.

  3. Grilling Setup: Preheat the grill and lightly grease it with cooking oil or margarine. Grill the fish, turning occasionally, until it’s halfway cooked.

  4. Make the Sauce: In a blender, combine garlic, black pepper, palm sugar, a little water, and sweet soy sauce. Blend until smooth, then taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

  5. Final Grill: Brush the sauce over the grilled catfish, allowing the flavors to absorb as it cooks until fully done.

  6. Serve: Enjoy the grilled catfish with sambal terasi (spicy shrimp paste sauce) and fresh vegetables.

This delightful dish captures the essence of traditional Indonesian flavors, perfect for a casual gathering or a comforting family meal!
