Instructions

Step Description
1 Begin by heating a bit of oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the garlic, red onions, and sliced chilies until fragrant, allowing the aromatics to infuse the oil.
2 Add the cubed tempe to the pan, stir-frying it until lightly golden and slightly crisp on the edges. Season with a pinch of salt, a sprinkle of sugar, and if needed, a little Masako seasoning for added umami. Stir well to ensure the tempe absorbs all the flavors.
3 Pour in the sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) to taste, stirring to coat the tempe evenly. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes, so the flavors meld together.
4 Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, sugar, or kecap manis as desired.
