Stir-Fried Tempeh with Sweet Soy Sauce (Tempe Tumis Kecap)

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Tempeh (cut into small cubes) 1 block
White tofu (cut into small cubes) 5 pieces
Kaffir lime leaves 3 leaves
Garlic (minced) 4 cloves (2 crushed, 2 thinly sliced)
Sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis) To taste
Sugar To taste
Salt To taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tempeh and Tofu:

    • Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the cubed tempeh and tofu until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Garlic:

    • In a mortar, crush 2 cloves of garlic until smooth. Thinly slice the remaining 2 cloves.
    • Heat a little oil in the same pan and add the crushed garlic first, followed by the sliced garlic. Stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Combine Ingredients:

    • Add the fried tempeh and tofu back into the pan. Stir well to coat with the garlic.
    • Pour in the sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis) according to your taste and mix until the tofu and tempeh are evenly coated.
  4. Simmer with Flavor:

    • Add a splash of water to the pan and toss in the kaffir lime leaves. Allow the mixture to simmer until the water is absorbed, and the flavors meld together.
    • Season with sugar and salt to taste.
  5. Serve:

    • Once the sauce has thickened and coated the tempeh and tofu well, remove from heat.
    • Serve your delicious Tempe Tumis Kecap with steamed rice or as a side dish. Enjoy!
