Tangy Spicy Gurame Carp with Tomato Chili Sauce

Spicy Tamarind Gurame

Ingredients:

  • 2 large gurame (carp) fish
  • 1/2 large onion
  • 1 large tomato
  • 2 pieces of ginger
  • 2 stalks of lemongrass
  • 4 red chilies
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chili sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Granulated sugar to taste
  • All-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying and sautéing

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:

    • Fillet the gurame fish and cut it into elongated pieces.
    • In a shallow dish, beat the egg. In another dish, place the all-purpose flour.
  2. Coat and Fry the Fish:

    • Dip each fillet of gurame into the beaten egg, then coat it with flour.
    • Heat oil in a pan until hot. Fry the fish fillets in the hot oil until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. Prepare the Sauce:

    • Slice the ginger, onion, lemongrass, red chilies, and green chilies.
    • In a separate pan, heat a little oil and sauté the sliced ingredients until fragrant.
    • Add the chili sauce and tomato sauce. Season with salt and granulated sugar to taste. Adjust the flavor as needed.
    • Add the sliced tomato and cook briefly, just enough to soften it slightly without making it mushy.
  4. Assemble and Serve:

    • Arrange the fried gurame fillets on a serving platter.
    • Pour the spicy tamarind sauce over the fish.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy your spicy tamarind gurame!
