Sweet and Sour Tuna

This delightful Sweet and Sour Tuna recipe is not only easy to prepare but also a budget-friendly meal that can serve your family multiple times. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a dish that’s bursting with flavor and perfect for any occasion. Let’s dive into the ingredients and steps to make this delicious meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Tuna fillet
  • 23 ml Oyster sauce (Saori)
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch (mixed with water)
  • 1 Tomato, diced
  • 3 packets Chili sauce
  • 5 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Onion (Bombay), finely sliced
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce

Preparation Steps

  1. Prepare the Tuna:

    • Rinse the tuna fillet with lime juice and let it marinate in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to enhance its flavor.
  2. Make the Batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, beat the egg and combine it with the all-purpose flour. Stir well, and if the mixture is too thick, add a little water to achieve a smooth consistency.
  3. Coat the Tuna:

    • Add the marinated tuna to the flour mixture, ensuring that each piece is thoroughly coated. Let it rest for about 15 minutes.
  4. Fry the Tuna:

    • Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan. Once hot, gently dip the tuna into the oil, frying until golden brown. Be careful not to let it burn.
  5. Drain the Tuna:

    • After frying, drain the tuna on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a separate pan, sauté the sliced onion and minced garlic until softened but not overly wilted. This step adds a depth of flavor to your sauce.
  7. Combine the Sauce Ingredients:

    • Add the chili sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch mixture to the pan. Stir well to combine all ingredients. If the sauce lacks flavor, add a pinch of salt to taste.
  8. Adjust the Sauce:

    • If the sauce is too thick, gradually add a little water until the desired consistency is achieved.
  9. Combine Tuna and Sauce:

    • Gently add the fried tuna fillets to the sauce, stirring carefully to coat them without breaking apart. Avoid cooking for too long; just until the sauce begins to bubble.
  10. Serve:

    • Remove from heat and serve immediately. This dish can easily provide three hearty servings, making it a great choice for family meals.

Note:

For a kid-friendly version, simply omit the chili sauce. The all-purpose flour alone will still create a delicious dish for the little ones to enjoy.

Enjoy Your Meal!

This Sweet and Sour Tuna is a wonderful way to enjoy a flavorful meal that rivals those found in restaurants, all while being kind to your wallet. Happy cooking, and enjoy your delicious creation!
