Description

Discover a simplified version of Alan Leonetti’s renowned marinara sauce, perfect for a cozy Italian meal any time of the year. This sauce is rich, thick, and bursting with flavors that complement pasta, chicken parmesan, and more. Adjust the consistency to your liking with tomato juice, water, or wine.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) Hunts Chunky Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Hunts Tomato Paste
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) stewed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 1 shallot, diced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tbsp Splenda granular (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a large pot, combine Hunts Chunky Crushed Tomatoes and Hunts Tomato Paste.

  2. Add Aromatics: Pour in the extra virgin olive oil. Add sliced garlic cloves and diced shallot into the pot.

  3. Seasoning: Sprinkle dried oregano, dried basil, Splenda granular, salt, and black pepper over the ingredients in the pot.

  4. Mix Well: Stir everything together thoroughly using a large, long-handled wooden spoon. Ensure all ingredients are evenly combined.

  5. Cooking Process: Do not strain the sauce, as the pulp enhances its thickness and flavor. Cover the pot and cook over medium heat, stirring every 10 minutes, for approximately 1 hour or until the sauce bubbles and is thoroughly heated.

  6. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low to simmer. Stir the sauce every 10-15 minutes to prevent burning or sticking to the bottom of the pot. Let it simmer for 1 to 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.

  7. Final Touch: Once done, remove the pot from heat and give the sauce a final stir to blend all the flavors.

  8. Serving: Serve this delightful marinara sauce over spaghetti, ravioli, or any pasta of your choice. It also pairs wonderfully with chicken parmesan, veal parmesan, or as a dipping sauce for bread.

  9. Notes: For the best results, use Hunts Chunky Crushed Tomatoes and Hunts Tomato Paste as specified in the recipe.

Enjoy this hearty marinara sauce, crafted with love and perfect for creating memorable Italian-inspired dishes at home.
