Tuna and Otak-Otak Fried Rice

Nasi Goreng Tongkol

Ingredients:

  • 1 plate of white rice
  • 1 small tuna fish (tongkol), cut into pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 2 pieces of otak-otak (fish cake)
  • Seasonings:
    • 3 shallots
    • 1 clove of garlic
    • Salt, to taste
    • Black pepper, to taste
    • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), to taste
    • Optional: Red chili, if available

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Slice the otak-otak into bite-sized pieces.
    • Cut the tuna fish (tongkol) into small chunks.
  2. Fry the Fish and Otak-Otak:

    • Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the tuna pieces until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
    • In the same pan, fry the sliced otak-otak until slightly crispy. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Base:

    • Thinly slice the shallots and garlic.
    • Heat a small amount of oil in the pan used for frying. Add the sliced shallots and garlic, cooking until fragrant and translucent.
  4. Stir-Fry the Rice:

    • Add the cooked white rice to the pan with the shallots and garlic. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine and heat through.
  5. Add Eggs and Tuna:

    • Push the rice to one side of the pan. Crack the egg into the empty space and scramble until just cooked. Mix the egg into the rice.
    • Add the fried tuna pieces and stir until evenly distributed.
  6. Finish with Seasonings:

    • Drizzle sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) over the rice mixture. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated and the flavors meld together.
  7. Serve:

    • Transfer the nasi goreng to serving plates. Top with the crispy otak-otak pieces for added texture and flavor.
