Instructions

  1. Prep the Ingredients:
Start by gathering all your ingredients. Ensure the phyllo sheets are completely thawed before you begin, as this is essential for easy handling.

  2. Prepare the Filling:
In a mixing bowl, combine the coarsely powdered almonds, walnuts, and pistachios with the caster sugar, cinnamon powder, and melted butter. Stir the mixture well to ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed and the filling is fully combined.

  3. Prepare the Phyllo Sheets:
Lay out the phyllo sheets and fold each one in half. Brush the top side with melted butter to ensure the pastry is well-coated. Make sure to keep the other sheet covered so it doesn’t dry out during the process.

  4. Assemble the Rolls:
Place the folded phyllo sheet on a flat surface, and at the short edge, spoon about two tablespoons of the nut filling mixture in a straight line. Carefully roll the phyllo sheet from the short end, brushing more melted butter along the way to secure the roll.

  5. Fill the Rolls:
Before rolling up the phyllo completely, pause halfway through. Add another layer of the nut filling along the short edge. Continue rolling until the sheet is fully wrapped up. Repeat the same process for the second sheet of phyllo.

  6. Cut and Arrange:
Once both sheets are rolled, cut each roll into three equal pieces. Arrange the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet. Brush the tops of the rolls with a light layer of melted butter to help them achieve a golden brown color when baked.

  7. Make the Syrup:
While the rolls are baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally until the syrup thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

  8. Bake the Rolls:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the prepared Baklava rolls into the oven and bake them for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy on top.

  9. Drizzle the Syrup:
Once the rolls are baked to perfection, remove them from the oven and immediately drizzle the cooled syrup over the hot rolls. This step ensures the sweet syrup soaks into the layers of phyllo, enhancing the flavor and adding a luscious sweetness to each bite.

  10. Garnish and Serve:
Finally, garnish the Baklava rolls with finely chopped pistachios for an extra touch of crunch and color. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving, so the syrup can set and the flavors fully develop.

Tips:

  • Thaw the Phyllo Properly: Ensure that the phyllo sheets are completely thawed before use, or they will become brittle and difficult to work with.
  • Butter Generously: Don’t skimp on the butter, as it helps achieve the crispy and golden texture that is characteristic of baklava.
  • Let the Syrup Cool: Allow the syrup to cool before drizzling it on the hot rolls to prevent it from being absorbed too quickly and losing its sweetness.

Enjoy Your Baklava Rolls!

These Baklava Rolls offer the same delightful flavors of traditional baklava, but in a fun and modern roll form that’s easy to serve. Whether you’re preparing them for a holiday gathering or simply as a sweet treat, these rolls are sure to become a favorite dessert in your culinary repertoire.
