Description:
Don’t limit yourself to candy canes and peppermint. You can use any flavoring and food coloring and make any kind of cookie. You are only limited by your imagination.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Red food coloring

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  2. Add egg, vanilla extract, and salt, then beat well until fully combined.
  3. Gradually add flour and beat until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Divide the dough in half.
  5. Add red food coloring to one half of the dough.
  6. Wrap each half of the dough separately in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
  8. For each candy cane, take a teaspoon of plain dough and a teaspoon of red dough, shaping each into 4-inch long ropes on a floured surface.
  9. Place the ropes side by side and twist them together.
  10. Pinch the ends of each twist to seal them.
  11. Form the twisted ropes into candy cane shapes and place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  12. Bake the candy canes for 8-10 minutes, until lightly golden.
  13. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet.
  14. Once cooled, brush on icing for extra sweetness and decoration.
