Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and garlic until the meat is no longer pink, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks.

  2. Once the meat is cooked, drain any excess fat from the skillet.

  3. Stir in the green chilies, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, salt, and pepper. If desired, add chili powder or taco seasoning for extra flavor.

  4. Allow the mixture to simmer, uncovered, for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

  5. While the meat mixture is simmering, prepare the toppings. Chop the tomatoes, shred the lettuce, grate the cheddar cheese, dice the onions, and scoop the sour cream into separate serving bowls.

  6. Arrange the toppings on a large serving platter or in individual bowls, making sure each topping has its own space.

  7. When the meat mixture is ready, assemble the taco salads by layering tortilla chips, lettuce, and the meat mixture in serving dishes.

  8. Let your guests customize their salads by adding their favorite toppings, such as tomatoes, cheese, onions, and sour cream.

  9. Serve immediately and enjoy the deliciousness of this crowd-pleasing taco salad!
