Awesome Lower Fat Brownies Recipe

Overview:

These Awesome Lower Fat Brownies are a delightful treat that even picky eaters like my son can’t resist! They’re perfect for any occasion, whether you’re baking for a large group or just craving a quick and easy dessert fix. Experiment with different flavored chips—mini ones work great because they won’t sink to the bottom. Plus, there’s a special Skor bits substitute version for those who love a bit of crunch in their brownies!

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 36 brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup low-fat sour cream
  • 1 jar (4 oz) prune baby food
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

For Skor Bits (Almond Brickle) Brownies:

  • Substitute 1/2 cup cocoa for 1/2 cup cake and pastry flour.
  • Substitute 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips for 1/3 cup Skor bits.
  • Extra Skor bits for sprinkling after baking.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the sides of an 8″x8″ square baking pan.

  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the margarine, white sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the egg and low-fat sour cream, blending well after each addition.

  4. Beat in the prune baby food until thoroughly combined.

  5. Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully incorporated.

  6. Stir in the mini chocolate chips gently until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with a few moist crumbs.

  9. Perform a toothpick test around 20 minutes to avoid overbaking—these brownies are best when moist!

  10. For Skor Bits (Almond Brickle) Brownies: To make the substitute version, replace 1/2 cup of cocoa with cake and pastry flour and swap mini chocolate chips with Skor bits. After baking, sprinkle extra Skor bits over the top for added crunch.

  11. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. Enjoy the rich, chocolatey goodness!

These Awesome Lower Fat Brownies are a fantastic choice for any dessert table or a quick sweet treat. They’re moist, flavorful, and sure to become a family favorite in no time. Experiment with different variations to suit your taste buds—every bite is a delight!
