ππ Favorite Banana Bread Recipe ππ
Description: This cherished banana bread recipe has been a staple in my kitchen since it graced the pages of Family Circle magazine back in 1988. Over the years, I’ve lovingly baked it 3-4 times annually, especially during the festive Christmas season, where it’s become a sought-after gift among my coworkers. ππΌ
Cook Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 35 minutes
Servings: 14 slices
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, divided
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
- Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
- In a separate bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Then, beat in eggs, one at a time.
- Stir in vanilla extract, then gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with mashed bananas and milk.
- Fold in 2/3 cup of chopped nuts, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining chopped nuts over the top of the batter for an added crunch.
- Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
- Carefully loosen the edges of the bread from the pan with a knife, then transfer the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, wrap the banana bread tightly and store it at room temperature.
- Tip: Ensure your bananas are ripe for the best flavor and texture. The riper the bananas, the moister the bread will be.
- Bonus: This banana bread actually tastes even better the next day, as the flavors meld together.
- Freezing: If you have leftovers or want to make a batch ahead of time, this banana bread freezes exceptionally well for up to 6 months.
