Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons light cream cheese
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
Instructions
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.
Mixing the Batter
-
In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until there are no lumps of cocoa.
-
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar until well combined.
-
Add the egg, egg whites, and vanilla extract to the saucepan. Mix until thoroughly combined.
-
Stir in the flour mixture until just blended.
-
Transfer about 2/3 of the batter into the prepared baking pan, and smooth the top.
Creating the Swirl
-
Spoon dollops of the remaining batter over the top, without smoothing it out.
-
In another medium bowl, beat together the peanut butter and cream cheese until smooth.
-
Add the brown sugar and egg white to the peanut butter mixture, and blend until smooth.
-
Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture in between the dollops of chocolate batter.
-
Using a thin-bladed knife, gently swirl the two batters together to create a marbled effect. Continue until the batter is fairly level on top.
Baking
- Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 28 to 30 minutes, or until the center of the brownie appears set and the sides just start to pull away from the pan.
Serving
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack before cutting them into squares.
