Category: Desserts
Serves/Pieces: 2

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
All-purpose flour (00 type) 250g
Baking powder 6g
Granulated sugar 100g
Vanilla bean 1 pod
Egg 1
Butter 125g
Lemon zest ½ lemon
Strawberry jam To taste
Powdered sugar To taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the Butter: Remove the butter from the fridge an hour before starting the preparation. Cut it into small pieces and allow it to soften at room temperature. This step ensures the butter mixes smoothly into the dough.

  2. Prepare the Dough: On a clean, flat surface, arrange the flour in a mound, creating a well in the center. Into this well, place the softened butter, sugar, egg, vanilla seeds (from the scraped pod), lemon zest, and baking powder. Carefully combine the ingredients using your hands, kneading gently until a smooth dough forms.

  3. Chill the Dough: Once mixed, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in a cool place for at least 30 minutes. This resting period helps the dough firm up and enhances the texture of the final biscuits.

  4. Roll Out the Dough: After resting, take the dough out of the fridge and roll it out on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to achieve a thickness of about ½ cm. You can use heart-shaped cookie cutters or any other shapes for a festive touch.

  5. Bake the Biscotti: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the cut-out shapes onto a lined baking tray, making sure they are spaced apart. Bake the biscotti for about 10-12 minutes, or until they are lightly golden around the edges. The key is to avoid over-baking; they should not darken too much.

  6. Assemble the Biscotti: While the biscotti are still warm, take the top biscuits (the ones without a cut-out in the center) and spread a thin layer of strawberry jam on them. Then, take the biscuit with the cut-out shape and gently place it over the jam-covered one, pressing down lightly to secure them.

  7. Finish with Powdered Sugar: Once assembled, dust the biscotti generously with powdered sugar. This final touch adds a delicate sweetness and a lovely, festive look.

  8. Serve and Enjoy: Let the biscotti cool slightly before serving. These treats are perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day, offering a blend of buttery sweetness with the bright flavor of strawberry jam.

Tip: These Valentine’s Day Biscotti are ideal for sharing with loved ones or giving as a thoughtful homemade gift. Pair them with a warm cup of tea or coffee for a delightful treat.
