Instructions:

  1. Begin by mixing the sweetened condensed milk and boiling water together in a bowl until smooth using a spoon or whisk. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, combine the milk and plain yogurt, stirring until smooth.
  3. Next, mix both the condensed milk mixture and the milk-yogurt mixture together until there are no lumps of yogurt remaining.
  4. Pour the combined mixture into small plastic containers. This recipe yields approximately 8 small yogurt containers, but you can also use baby food jars if preferred.
  5. Arrange the containers in a large pot or any vessel that can hold water.
  6. Prepare a water bath for the containers by boiling water and carefully pouring it into the pot until it reaches almost to the top of the yogurt containers. Be cautious not to get water into the yogurt mixture.
  7. Cover the pot with a towel and allow the boiling water to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, check if the yogurt mixture has set slightly. If not, repeat the hot water bath process once more.
  9. After the second hot water bath, allow the containers to cool completely before transferring them to the refrigerator to chill until served.
  10. Serve chilled and enjoy the sweet and tart flavors of Vietnamese yogurt!

Recipe Notes:

  • The yogurt should have a balanced taste of sweetness and tartness.
  • If the yogurt is overly sweet and not set, it’s likely that the water bath was too hot or prolonged. Avoid placing the containers over a burner to keep the water warm, as this can affect the texture and flavor of the yogurt.
  • Vietnamese yogurt differs from traditional yogurt in its texture and is not meant to be stirred before consumption. Simply enjoy it as is!

With its creamy texture and irresistible flavors, Vietnamese yogurt is sure to become a favorite dessert option for any occasion. So, gather your ingredients and embark on a culinary journey to Vietnam right from your own kitchen! 🥣🌟
