Balado Sardines

Ingredients

  • 5 sardines
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt, to taste
  • For the Balado Sauce:
    • 15 curly red chilies
    • 5 shallots
    • 1 tomato
    • Salt, sugar, and seasoning, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sardines: Begin by cleaning the sardines thoroughly. Once cleaned, coat them with lime juice and salt, allowing them to marinate for about 5 minutes so the flavors can penetrate the fish.

  2. Fry the Sardines: In a hot pan, fry the marinated sardines until they are crispy and golden brown. Once cooked, remove them from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

  3. Make the Balado Sauce: For the balado sauce, blend the curly red chilies, shallots, and tomato until smooth. In a skillet, heat a little oil and sauté the blended mixture until it cooks through and releases its aromatic oils.

  4. Season the Sauce: Add salt, sugar, and seasoning to the sautéed mixture, tasting and adjusting the seasoning as needed to achieve the desired balance of flavors.

  5. Combine with Sardines: Gently add the fried sardines into the balado sauce, tossing them lightly to coat without breaking the fish. Allow them to simmer in the sauce for a minute to absorb the flavors.

  6. Serve: Once everything is well combined, remove from heat and serve your delicious Balado Sardines hot, either as a main dish or as a flavorful side.

Enjoy!

This vibrant dish embodies the rich flavors of Indonesian cuisine, perfect for sharing with family and friends. Enjoy your culinary journey with Balado Sardines!
