Zesty Spicy Tuna Steaks with Kaffir Lime

Spicy Tuna (Tongkol dicabe2in) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 pieces of tuna steaks (adjust based on size; 2 pieces approximately the size of those sold by vegetable vendors)
  • 3 shallots
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 10 red chilies
  • 5 bird’s eye chilies
  • 1 tomato
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Seasoning (such as chicken or beef bouillon), to taste
  • Kaffir lime leaves

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tuna: Clean and cut the tuna steaks into pieces according to your preference.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: Blend the shallots, garlic, red chilies, bird’s eye chilies, and tomato together until smooth.

  3. Pre-cook the Tuna: Heat oil in a pan and lightly fry the tuna pieces until they are half-cooked. Remove them from the pan and drain excess oil.

  4. Cook the Spice Paste: In the same pan, sauté the blended spice paste along with the kaffir lime leaves until fragrant.

  5. Combine Tuna and Spice Paste: Add the pre-cooked tuna pieces into the pan with the spice paste. Pour in a bit of water to help the spices infuse into the tuna. Cover the pan and let it simmer for a few minutes.

  6. Season the Dish: Add salt, sugar, and seasoning to taste. Cover again and continue cooking until the liquid has reduced and the tuna is well-coated with the spice paste.

  7. Adjust and Serve: Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Once the dish is ready, serve hot.
