Description:

Delicious and easy to make, these vegetarian BBQ/Sloppy Joes are a delightful treat for any occasion! If you can’t find frozen veggies, you can easily substitute chopped onion, celery, and bell pepper for a fresh twist.

Ingredients:

  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 4 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 vegetable bouillon cube
  • 1 tablespoon Bragg’s Liquid Aminos (or soy sauce)
  • Hot sauce, to taste
  • 1 cup textured vegetable protein (TVP)
  • Water
  • Oil (for cooking)
  • Rolls, tortillas, etc. (for serving)

Instructions:

Step Description Time
1 In a skillet, cook the minced garlic and vegetables in a little oil until they are tender. 5 minutes
2 Add the tomato paste, ketchup, brown sugar, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, hot sauce, and enough water to thin the sauce a little. Cook for a few minutes, then set aside. 5 minutes
3 In a separate pot, cook the textured vegetable protein (TVP) and vegetable bouillon cube in enough water to cover them for a few minutes. Drain and set aside. 5 minutes
4 In the same skillet used for the vegetables, fry the TVP in a little oil for 5-10 minutes until it’s nicely browned. 10 minutes
5 Mix the fried TVP with the sauce prepared earlier and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. 5 minutes
6 Adjust the seasonings according to your taste preferences.
7 Serve the vegetarian BBQ/Sloppy Joes on rolls, tortillas, or your preferred choice of bread. Enjoy your flavorful creation!
