Description:

YUM! YUM! This is a wonderful tasting spaghetti sauce. I also use this when making lasagna or manicotti. Serve with a large green salad and garlic bread and you have a great meal to serve your family. Estimated prep time and can simmer longer than 3 hours if desired. Just be sure to stir occasionally – spaghetti sauce is always better the longer it cooks.

Ingredients:

1 Sweet Italian sausage link
2 Fresh garlic cloves
1 Diced tomato
1 Tomato paste
1/4 Dry parsley flakes
1 Brown sugar
1 Salt
1 1/2 Dried oregano
1/4 Dried thyme
1 Bay leaf
1 – 2 Fennel seed

Instructions:

  1. Brown the meats: In a large skillet, brown together the ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain well to remove excess fat.

  2. Combine ingredients: Once drained, transfer the cooked meats to a large pot or Dutch oven. Add the diced tomato, tomato paste, dry parsley flakes, brown sugar, salt, dried oregano, dried thyme, bay leaf, and fennel seed. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Add water and simmer: Pour in 2 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the sauce simmer gently for 3 hours. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

  4. Thicken the sauce: As the sauce simmers, it will gradually thicken and develop rich flavors. If desired, you can let it simmer for longer than 3 hours for even deeper flavor. Just be sure to keep an eye on it and stir occasionally.

  5. Serve: Once the sauce has reached your desired thickness, remove the bay leaf and discard it. Serve the hot, flavorful sauce over cooked spaghetti noodles. Top each serving with grated Parmesan cheese for an extra burst of flavor.
