Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
All-purpose flour 2 cups
Sugar 2 cups
Baking soda 1 tsp
Salt 1/4 tsp
Butter 1 cup
Water 1 cup
Eggs 2
Buttermilk 1/2 cup + 3 tbsp
Vanilla extract 1 1/2 tsp
Unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 cup + 3 tbsp
Powdered sugar 3 cups
Pecans (optional) 1 cup

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 15x10x1-inch or a 13x9x2-inch baking pan; set it aside.

  2. Mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a medium mixing bowl; set aside.

  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the 1 cup of butter, water, and 1/3 cup of cocoa powder. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Once it reaches a boil, remove it from the heat.

  4. Add the chocolate mixture to the flour mixture and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until well combined.

  5. Add the eggs, 1/2 cup of buttermilk, and 1-1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the mixture. Beat for about 1 minute; the batter will be thin.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

  7. Bake the brownies in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes for a 15x10x1-inch pan, or 35 minutes for a 13x9x2-inch pan, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. While the brownies are baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium saucepan, combine the 1/4 cup of butter, 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 3 tablespoons of buttermilk. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove it from the heat.

  9. Stir in the powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. If desired, add pecans to the frosting.

  10. Pour the warm frosting over the warm brownies immediately after removing them from the oven, spreading it evenly.

  11. Allow the brownies to cool on a wire rack, then cut them into bars.

  12. Serve and enjoy these indulgent Buttermilk Brownies!

These Buttermilk Brownies are perfect for satisfying your chocolate cravings or for sharing with friends and family at gatherings and events. With their moist texture and rich flavor, they’re sure to become a favorite treat for any occasion.
