Description: “This must be one of the best cookies I have ever eaten.” Yep, that’s what my mother said the first time I ever made this cookie. It is a GREAT cookie recipe, and not difficult to make at all. I tripled the recipe and took it to school to sell… I sold all of them within an 80-minute time span to only 4 people. They are good cookies, I can’t resist them whenever I make them. And they turn out so nice whenever you bake them, it’s hard to make an ugly snickerdoodle. lol. Enjoy. (prep time is estimated)

Recipe Yield: 16 cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • For Topping:
    • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar at high speed until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
  4. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until well combined.
  5. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) while you let the dough rest in the refrigerator for 30-60 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the topping.
  7. Take about 2 1/2 tablespoons of dough and roll it into a ball.
  8. Roll the dough ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until coated, then press it onto a greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, no more. They may seem undercooked, but they will continue to develop as they cool.
  10. Do not roll the dough balls too large, as they may not cook through in the allotted time. If unsure, err on the side of smaller balls.
  11. If the cookies don’t turn out perfectly the first time, don’t worry! It’s a very forgiving recipe, and it may take a couple of tries to get the cooking time just right.

These snickerdoodles are sure to become a favorite in your household, just as they have in mine. Enjoy the delicious cinnamon-sugar goodness of these cookies, perfect for any occasion or simply as a sweet treat anytime!
