Gurame Tahu Tauco

Ingredients

  • 1 whole gurame fish
  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 finger-sized piece of ginger, sliced
  • 3 large green chilies, seeds removed
  • 2 large red chilies
  • 5 tablespoons tauco (fermented soybean paste)
  • Soy sauce
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • Oyster sauce
  • Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Angciu (Chinese cooking wine)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Begin by rubbing the gurame fish with lime juice to enhance its flavor. This not only adds zest but also helps to tenderize the fish. Once seasoned, set it aside.

  2. Fry the Tofu: Cut the block of tofu into cubes and fry until golden brown on all sides. This will add a lovely texture and richness to the dish.

  3. Sauté the Aromatics: In a hot pan, add a little oil and sauté the sliced onion until translucent. Next, add the minced garlic and sliced ginger, cooking until fragrant.

  4. Add the Tauco: Incorporate the tauco into the pan, stirring well to combine with the aromatics. This will create a flavorful base for your dish.
