Sambal Ikan Simba Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kg Simba fish (or 1 kg if you prefer a larger quantity)
- 300 grams red chilies
- 9 shallots
- 5 cloves garlic
- 2 medium tomatoes
- Salt, to taste
- Sugar, to taste
- Cooking oil
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Fish:
Begin by cutting the Simba fish into manageable pieces. Lightly season the fish with salt. Heat oil in a pan until it’s hot and then fry the fish pieces until they are partially cooked. Remove them from the pan and set aside. -
Prepare the Spice Mixture:
While the fish is cooling, prepare the sambal base. Blend the red chilies, shallots, and garlic together. You can choose to grind them finely or coarsely based on your texture preference—finer for a smoother sambal. Slice the tomatoes into medium-sized pieces. -
Cook the Sambal:
Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the ground spice mixture and the sliced tomatoes to the pan. Cook the mixture until the oil separates and the sambal is fragrant. -
Season and Combine:
Season the sambal with salt and sugar according to your taste. Once the sambal is well-cooked and the flavors are well combined, add the pre-fried fish pieces to the pan. Gently mix to ensure the fish is well coated with the sambal. -
Simmer and Serve:
Allow the sambal and fish to cook together for a few minutes, letting the flavors meld. Once the fish is thoroughly cooked and infused with the sambal, transfer the dish to a serving plate.
Enjoy your delicious Sambal Ikan Simba with steamed rice or as a flavorful accompaniment to other dishes. This recipe brings together the robust flavors of traditional sambal with the richness of Simba fish, creating a delightful meal that will tantalize your taste buds.
