Ingredients:
- 1 whole red chicken
- 1/2 grated coconut (kelapa gongseng)
- Spice Paste:
- 3 shallots
- 4 cloves garlic
- Black peppercorns or ground pepper, to taste
- Fresh ginger
- 10 red chilies
- 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
- 1-inch piece turmeric
- 8 cloves cumin (both whole and ground)
- 1 sliced shallot
- 5 star anise
