Nasi Siram Sapi Jamur (Indonesian Stir-Fried Rice with Beef and Mushrooms)

Ingredients

  • 2 servings of cold rice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 150 grams beef, thinly sliced
    • Marinade: 1 teaspoon rice wine (or omit if preferred), 1 teaspoon oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon tapioca flour, salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 oyster mushrooms, briefly boiled and sliced
  • 1 young corn, sliced lengthwise
  • 1 carrot, sliced diagonally
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • Soy sauce, to taste (I use Raja Rasa brand)
  • Oyster sauce, to taste (Lee Kum Kee brand)
  • Rice wine (optional), for cooking

Steps

  1. Marinate the Beef: Combine the thinly sliced beef with rice wine, oyster sauce, tapioca flour, salt, and pepper. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  2. Cook the Beef: Heat a pan over medium-high heat and stir-fry the marinated beef until fully cooked. Once done, set the beef aside.

  3. Prepare the Vegetables: In the same pan, sauté the chopped garlic and sliced onion until fragrant. Add the young corn, carrot, and mushrooms. Season with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a splash of rice wine if using. Adjust seasoning to your taste.

  4. Combine Beef and Vegetables: Return the cooked beef to the pan with the vegetables. Stir well and add a small amount of water if necessary. If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can add a bit of cornstarch or tapioca flour mixed with water to thicken the sauce. (Note: My husband prefers a less thick sauce, so I often skip this step.)

  5. Cook the Rice: In a separate pan, heat the butter and pour in the beaten egg. Scramble the egg, then add the cold rice. Stir-fry until the rice is heated through and well combined with the egg.

  6. Serve: Plate the scrambled rice and top with the beef and vegetable stir-fry.
