Daging Sapi Gongso / Sate Goreng: A Delightful Indonesian Beef Dish

Ingredients:

  • 350 grams beef (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Tamarind water (to taste)
  • Palm sugar (to taste)
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 3 shallots
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Flavor enhancer (optional, to taste)
  • Fresh red chilies and additional shallots for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Cut the beef into small, bite-sized pieces. Place the pieces into a pot and cover with water. Simmer the beef for approximately 30 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a blender, combine garlic, shallots, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, tamarind water, and palm sugar. Blend until you achieve a smooth paste.

  3. Cook the Spice Paste: Heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the blended spice paste and cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant and the oil starts to separate from the paste.

  4. Combine Beef and Spice Paste: Add the cooked beef to the pan with the spice paste. Mix thoroughly to coat the beef evenly with the spices.

  5. Add Sweet Soy Sauce: Pour in the sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) according to your taste preferences. Stir well to combine.

  6. Simmer: Continue to cook the beef mixture until the liquid has reduced and thickened to your desired consistency.

  7. Serve: Transfer the beef to a serving dish. Garnish with sliced shallots and fresh red chilies for an extra touch of flavor and color.

Enjoy this savory and sweet Indonesian beef dish as a delicious main course or a flavorful addition to your next meal.
