Black Pepper Beef (Daging Sapi Lada Hitam)

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of beef, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper (color of your choice), sliced
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • Salt and sugar, to taste
  • 2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns (crushed coarsely)
  • Cooking oil (olive oil preferred)

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Rinse the beef slices under cold water, then pat dry with paper towels. This step ensures the beef cooks properly and retains its flavor.

  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat a generous amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced bell pepper and minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant and the vegetables start to soften.

  3. Add Sauces: Incorporate the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, sugar, and salt into the skillet. Stir well to combine, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  4. Crush Black Pepper: Using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder, coarsely crush the black peppercorns. Do not grind them too finely, as whole peppercorns contribute to a better texture and more robust flavor.

  5. Cook the Beef: Add the crushed black pepper to the skillet, then introduce the beef slices. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is thoroughly cooked and tender.

  6. Finish and Serve: Toss in the sliced onion and stir briefly. Adjust seasoning with additional salt or sugar if needed. Once the onions are slightly softened, remove from heat.

  7. Enjoy: Serve your Black Pepper Beef hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired. Enjoy this flavorful dish with steamed rice or noodles.

Happy Cooking!
