Crispy Tahu with Spicy Garlic and Shallots
Ingredients:
- 2 blocks of Tahu (Indonesian tofu), cut into large cubes
- All-purpose seasoning flour (Tepung Bumbu Serbaguna)
- 1 bulb garlic, minced
- 5 bird’s eye chilies, sliced (adjust to taste)
- 1 stalk green onion, sliced diagonally
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Chicken bouillon powder (optional)
- 1-2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Instructions:

Prepare the Tofu:
- Coat the tofu cubes evenly with the all-purpose seasoning flour.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the tofu until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Sauté Garlic:
- In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté until it turns golden brown and crispy, being careful not to burn it. Remove from the pan and drain excess oil.

Cook the Spices:
- In the same pan, add a bit more butter or margarine if needed, and then add the remaining minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced bird’s eye chilies and sauté briefly until the chilies release their aroma.

Combine and Season:
- Season the mixture with salt, black pepper, and chicken bouillon powder if using.
- Add the fried tofu to the pan and toss to coat the tofu evenly with the spicy garlic mixture.

Finish and Serve:
- Turn off the heat and add the sliced green onions. Give everything a final toss.
- Serve hot as a delicious appetizer or a side dish.
