Rolade Ayam Tahu: A Savory Indonesian Delight

Discover the rich and savory flavors of Indonesian cuisine with this delectable Rolade Ayam Tahu recipe. Combining tender chicken fillet with tofu and a fragrant mix of aromatics, this dish is perfect for a special meal or a delightful everyday treat. Hereโ€™s how to make it:

Ingredients

  • 500 grams chicken fillet
  • 2 medium-sized white tofu blocks
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 4 shallots
  • 1 onion
  • 5 eggs
  • 100 grams all-purpose flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar to taste
  • Ground pepper to taste
  • 5 sheets medium-sized clear plastic wrap

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • Finely chop the garlic, shallots, and onion. In a skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Sautรฉ the chopped aromatics until they become fragrant and golden brown.
  2. Blend the Ingredients:

    • Once the aromatics are ready, place the chicken fillet, tofu, and sautรฉed aromatics into a blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Mix the Batter:

    • Add one egg to the blender and blend again until the egg is fully incorporated into the mixture. Transfer the blended mixture to a bowl. Stir in the all-purpose flour until well combined. Season with salt, sugar, and ground pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly to ensure an even seasoning.
  4. Prepare the Egg Crepes:

    • In a non-stick skillet, cook several thin omelets, seasoning with a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor. Set the omelets aside to cool.
  5. Assemble the Rolade:

    • Lay out a sheet of clear plastic wrap on a clean surface. Place one of the egg omelets on the plastic wrap. Spread a portion of the chicken-tofu mixture evenly over the omelet. Carefully roll up the omelet and filling using the plastic wrap to form a tight log. Twist the ends of the plastic wrap to secure the roll.
  6. Steam the Rolade:

    • Place the wrapped rolls into a steamer and steam for approximately 30-40 minutes, or until the rolades are fully cooked through.
  7. Finish and Serve:

    • Once steamed, remove the rolades from the plastic wrap and allow them to cool slightly. Slice into portions as desired. You can serve the rolades as is or pan-fry them for a crispy exterior before serving.

This Rolade Ayam Tahu recipe is not only a treat for your taste buds but also a feast for the eyes, with its beautifully rolled presentation. Perfect for family dinners or special occasions, enjoy this delightful Indonesian dish with your favorite side dishes and sauces.
