Stir-Fried Bean Sprouts with Tofu

This vibrant and savory dish, known as “Kecambah Tahu Sari” in Indonesian, offers a delightful combination of crunchy bean sprouts and tofu, seasoned with fresh chili and garlic. It’s a quick and easy recipe that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner or a tasty side dish. Here’s how you can make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of yellow tofu (Tahu Sari)
  • 2 bundles of bean sprouts
  • 3 large green chilies
  • 2 small red chilies (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 package of Magic Lezat seasoning (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil for sautéing
  • Fried shallots for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Rinse the bean sprouts thoroughly and drain them well.
    • Cut the tofu into small cubes, or according to your preference.
    • Slice the green and red chilies, and finely chop the garlic.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics:

    • Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced chilies and chopped garlic to the pan. Sauté until the garlic becomes fragrant and golden brown.
  3. Cook the Tofu:

    • Add the tofu cubes to the pan with the sautéed chilies and garlic. Cook for about 3 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors.
  4. Season the Dish:

    • Sprinkle in the sugar, salt, and Magic Lezat seasoning (if using). Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Add the Bean Sprouts:

    • Add the bean sprouts to the pan. Stir-fry for another 2 minutes, or until the bean sprouts are tender but still crisp.
  6. Serve:

    • Transfer the stir-fried bean sprouts and tofu to a serving plate. Garnish with fried shallots if desired for extra crunch and flavor.
