Tahu Walik Recipe
Ingredients:
- 10 pieces of tofu (firm, cut into triangles)
- 1/4 kg (250g) chicken breast
- 1 large egg
- 3 shallots
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons tapioca flour (or cornstarch)
- 2-3 scallions (finely chopped)
- Salt, to taste
- Sugar, to taste
- Cooking oil, for frying
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a blender, combine the chicken breast, egg, shallots, and garlic. Blend until you achieve a smooth mixture. Transfer this mixture to a large bowl.
-
Add Flour and Seasonings: To the chicken mixture, add the all-purpose flour and tapioca flour. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Stir in the finely chopped scallions. Season the mixture with salt and sugar to taste. To ensure the seasoning is just right, cook a small amount of the mixture in a pan and taste it. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
-
Prepare the Tofu: Cut the tofu into triangular pieces. Using a small knife or spoon, carefully hollow out the center of each tofu triangle, creating a pocket for the filling.
-
Fill the Tofu: Spoon the prepared chicken mixture into each tofu pocket, filling them generously. Make sure the filling is evenly distributed.
-
Fry the Tahu Walik: Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the filled tofu pieces into the hot oil. Fry until the tofu is golden brown and crispy, and the chicken filling is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
-
Serve and Enjoy: Once fried, remove the Tahu Walik from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious Tahu Walik!
This Indonesian delicacy offers a delightful contrast between the crispy tofu exterior and the flavorful, savory chicken filling. Perfect as an appetizer or a snack, Tahu Walik is sure to impress with its unique taste and texture.
