Perfect Sunny-Side Up Egg Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Butter or margarine (amount as needed)
  • Water (amount as needed)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Begin by gathering all your ingredients. For this recipe, you will use just one egg. Ensure your fry pan is clean and ready for use.

  2. Heat the Pan: Place a non-stick fry pan over low heat. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil to the pan and let it heat up, spreading the oil evenly across the surface.

  3. Cook the Egg: Carefully crack the egg and slide it into the pan. Keep the heat on low. This is crucial because cooking the egg over low heat ensures that the egg white cooks evenly and gently, without burning.

  4. Add Water and Steam: Once the egg white has begun to set and turn opaque, add a small amount of water to the pan. The water should not cover the egg yolk; it should only come up to the edge of the yolk. If you have a lid for your pan, cover it at this stage. The steam created will help cook the egg white thoroughly and evenly.

  5. Finish Cooking: As the water evaporates, remove the lid (if used) and check that the egg white is fully cooked and has enveloped the yolk. Add a small amount of butter or margarine to the pan and gently swirl it around to melt. This will enhance the flavor and give a richer taste to the egg. Continue cooking until the water is fully evaporated.

  6. Serve: Gently lift the egg from the pan and transfer it to a plate. Carefully remove any remaining translucent membrane from the egg white. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  7. Enjoy: Your perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg is ready to be enjoyed. The patience required to achieve this perfect egg is worth the effort, and the result is a delicious, tender egg with a rich, creamy yolk.

Note: The reason for using low heat and adding water is to ensure the egg white cooks thoroughly without burning while allowing the yolk to remain soft and runny. This method, though simple, yields a beautifully cooked sunny-side-up egg that’s both tender and flavorful.
