All-purpose flour 6 tablespoons
Tapioca flour (or cornstarch) 6 tablespoons
Egg 1 large

For the Sauce:

Ingredients Quantity
Onion (thinly sliced) 1 medium
Garlic (minced) 3 cloves
Large chili peppers (diagonally sliced) 3 pieces
Scallion (sliced) 1 stalk
Ground pepper 1/2 teaspoon
Oil (for sautéing) As needed
Seasoning (salt or flavor enhancer) To taste
Sweet soy sauce 1 tablespoon
Oyster sauce 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tempeh Meatballs:

    • Steam the tempeh until tender, then mash it until it reaches a smooth consistency.
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed tempeh with all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, egg, and minced garlic. Season the mixture with salt and pepper or your preferred seasoning.
    • Shape the mixture into small meatball-sized portions.
    • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Drop the tempeh balls into the boiling water and cook until they float to the surface. Remove the meatballs from the water and drain them.
    • Heat oil in a pan for frying. Fry the meatballs until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. Set aside.
  2. Make the Sauce:

    • In a pan, heat a little oil and sauté the sliced onion, minced garlic, and chili peppers until fragrant.
    • Add the sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, ground pepper, and scallion, stirring everything together.
    • Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  3. Serve:

    • Add the fried tempeh meatballs to the sauce, stir gently to coat them well.
    • Let the meatballs absorb the flavors of the sauce for about 2-3 minutes.
    • Serve immediately, and enjoy these flavorful Tempe Meatballs with Oyster Sauce!

Cooking Notes:

  • For a spicier kick, feel free to add more chili peppers or a dash of chili flakes.
  • You can serve these tempeh meatballs with steamed rice or as an appetizer.

Enjoy your delightful and protein-packed Tempeh Meatballs with Oyster Sauce!
