Tempe Bakwan (Fritters)

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tempeh 1 block
Scallions (green onions) 1 stalk
Bakwan flour mix (small pack) 1 small packet
Water (room temperature) 200 ml
Cooking oil As needed for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Start by finely slicing the scallions into small pieces. Then, cut the tempeh into bite-sized chunks or any shape you prefer. The texture of the tempeh adds a hearty bite to the fritters.

  2. Make the Batter:
In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced scallions and chopped tempeh. Add the bakwan flour mix into the same bowl. Slowly pour in the water, stirring the mixture until a thick batter forms. The batter should be smooth enough to hold the ingredients together but not too watery.

  3. Fry the Fritters:
Heat enough cooking oil in a pan to deep fry. Once the oil is hot, spoon a portion of the batter and carefully drop it into the oil. Fry each piece until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway to ensure even cooking.

  4. Drain and Serve:
Once cooked, remove the fritters from the pan and drain the excess oil by placing them on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious snack.

Enjoy your crispy, savory Tempe Bakwan!
