Maanga Ogre is a flavorful mango rice dish perfect for summer. Infused with grated raw mango, coconut, green chillies, and a hint of jaggery, this dish is both tangy and mildly sweet. It’s an easy, everyday recipe thatโ€™s bursting with delightful Indian flavors.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups rice (cooked)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 raw mango, peeled and grated
  • 1/4 cup grated coconut
  • 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 green chillies, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp jaggery, grated

For Tempering:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 tsp chana dal (gram dal)
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Start by making a paste. In a blender, combine raw mango, grated coconut, mustard seeds, green chillies, turmeric powder, jaggery, salt, and coriander leaves. Blend until smooth.
  2. Mix this mango paste with the cooked rice. Stir well to combine the flavors.
  3. In a separate pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle.
  4. Add cumin seeds, chana dal, and sautรฉ until the dal turns golden brown.
  5. Add asafoetida and curry leaves. Turn off the heat.
  6. Pour this tempering over the rice mixture and mix thoroughly.
  7. Serve the Maanga Ogre with boondi raita, tadka raita, or any other raita of your choice.
