Maanga Ogre is a flavorful mango rice dish perfect for summer. Infused with grated raw mango, coconut, green chillies, and a hint of jaggery, this dish is both tangy and mildly sweet. It’s an easy, everyday recipe thatโs bursting with delightful Indian flavors.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups rice (cooked)
- Salt, to taste
- 1 raw mango, peeled and grated
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 2 tsp mustard seeds
- 3 green chillies, chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp jaggery, grated
For Tempering:
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2-3 tsp chana dal (gram dal)
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Instructions:
- Start by making a paste. In a blender, combine raw mango, grated coconut, mustard seeds, green chillies, turmeric powder, jaggery, salt, and coriander leaves. Blend until smooth.
- Mix this mango paste with the cooked rice. Stir well to combine the flavors.
- In a separate pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle.
- Add cumin seeds, chana dal, and sautรฉ until the dal turns golden brown.
- Add asafoetida and curry leaves. Turn off the heat.
- Pour this tempering over the rice mixture and mix thoroughly.
- Serve the Maanga Ogre with boondi raita, tadka raita, or any other raita of your choice.
