Pepper Rasam (Village Style)
Description: Pepper Rasam is a healthy and comforting recipe made with garlic, black pepper, and cumin. It’s a great dish for those days when you’ve just returned from a long holiday and crave something delicious and nutritious.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup tamarind water
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp whole black pepper
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 dried red chilies
- 2 tsp toor dal (pigeon peas)
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 55 minutes
Instructions:
- Soak all the ingredients for the masala paste in water for 30 minutes. You can add a little water while grinding the paste. Extract tamarind juice and discard the remaining tamarind.
- In a saucepan, combine the tamarind juice, masala paste, chopped tomatoes, and curry leaves. Cook for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, add salt and stir. If the consistency is thick, add a little water. Cook for another 5 minutes and then turn off the heat.
- In a small tempering pan, heat ghee and add mustard seeds. After 10 seconds, add a pinch of asafoetida and turn off the heat.
- Add the tempering to the Rasam and mix well.
- Serve hot with rice, papad, and side dishes like Keerai Sambar, Carrot Beans Thoran, and enjoy a hearty South Indian meal!
