Somay Ayam (Chicken Siomay) Recipe
Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- 250 grams of chicken meat (only the meat)
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper
- 50 ml of water
- 80 grams of tapioca flour
Additional Ingredients:
- 250 grams of boiled cabbage
- 250 grams of boiled potatoes
- 1 pack of firm white tofu
- Wonton wrappers (optional)
- Grated carrot
Instructions
Preparing the Chicken Mixture:
- Blend all the main ingredients (chicken meat, egg, garlic, granulated sugar, salt, ground pepper, water, and tapioca flour) until smooth and well-combined.
Shaping the Siomay:
- If using wonton wrappers, place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each wrapper and fold it into a siomay shape.
- If you don’t have wonton wrappers, you can steam the mixture directly in small cake molds.
- Sprinkle grated carrot on top of each siomay before steaming.
Preparing the Tofu:
- Take the firm white tofu, cut it in the middle to make a pocket, and stuff it with the chicken mixture.
Steaming:
- Steam the siomay and the stuffed tofu for about 20 minutes until fully cooked.
Serving:
- Serve the siomay and stuffed tofu with boiled cabbage, boiled potatoes, and hard-boiled eggs.
- Drizzle with peanut sauce for an authentic taste.
