Somay Ayam (Chicken Siomay) Recipe

Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of chicken meat (only the meat)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper
  • 50 ml of water
  • 80 grams of tapioca flour

Additional Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of boiled cabbage
  • 250 grams of boiled potatoes
  • 1 pack of firm white tofu
  • Wonton wrappers (optional)
  • Grated carrot

Instructions

Preparing the Chicken Mixture:

  1. Blend all the main ingredients (chicken meat, egg, garlic, granulated sugar, salt, ground pepper, water, and tapioca flour) until smooth and well-combined.

Shaping the Siomay:

  1. If using wonton wrappers, place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each wrapper and fold it into a siomay shape.
  2. If you don’t have wonton wrappers, you can steam the mixture directly in small cake molds.
  3. Sprinkle grated carrot on top of each siomay before steaming.

Preparing the Tofu:

  1. Take the firm white tofu, cut it in the middle to make a pocket, and stuff it with the chicken mixture.

Steaming:

  1. Steam the siomay and the stuffed tofu for about 20 minutes until fully cooked.

Serving:

  1. Serve the siomay and stuffed tofu with boiled cabbage, boiled potatoes, and hard-boiled eggs.
  2. Drizzle with peanut sauce for an authentic taste.

Enjoy your homemade Somay Ayam, a delightful Indonesian street food that brings a burst of flavors to your table!
