Nasi Kebuli Sapi with Magic Com

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of rice (I used polished rice)
  • 250 grams of beef (choose tender cuts, cut into cubes)
  • 3 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 packet of instant curry seasoning
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • As needed: water (I used beef broth for richer flavor)
  • 3 tablespoons curry powder
  • For the Spice Paste:
    • 4 cloves garlic
    • 6 shallots
    • 1 thumb-sized piece of turmeric
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • For Garnish:
    • Omelet slices
    • Cucumber slices
    • Emping crackers
    • Chili sauce

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Beef:

    • Clean the beef thoroughly. Boil in water until it reaches a rolling boil. Discard the boiling water, rinse the beef, and then reboil until the beef is tender. Set aside.
  2. Make the Spice Paste:

    • In a blender or food processor, combine garlic, shallots, turmeric, black pepper, and ground coriander. Blend until you achieve a smooth paste.
  3. Cook the Spice Paste:

    • Heat margarine in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the spice paste until fragrant.
  4. Add Spices and Seasonings:

    • Add curry powder, cinnamon sticks, and instant curry seasoning to the pan. Stir well to combine.
  5. Combine Beef and Spice Mixture:

    • Add the cooked beef and its broth to the pan. Simmer until the flavors are well combined and the beef is thoroughly coated with the spices.
  6. Prepare the Rice:

    • Mix the cooked beef and spice mixture with the washed rice. Stir to ensure the rice is evenly coated with the spices.
  7. Cook in Magic Com:

    • Transfer the rice and beef mixture to the Magic Com (rice cooker). Adjust the water level to the usual amount for cooking rice. Start the “cook” function. Midway through cooking, stir the rice to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.
  8. Final Touches:

    • Once the rice is cooked and has absorbed all the flavors, it’s ready to serve.
  9. Serve and Garnish:

    • Serve the Nasi Kebuli Sapi with omelet slices, cucumber slices, emping crackers, and chili sauce on the side.

Note: If you don’t have curry powder, you can make your own spice blend. Blend the following ingredients until smooth: 2 star anise, 2 cardamom pods (seeds only), 5 cloves, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, and 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.

Enjoy this fragrant and flavorful Nasi Kebuli Sapi, perfect for a hearty meal.
