Monte Cristo Sandwich Recipe

Description: 🍞 A great brunch item! One of my husband’s favorite filling, baked, French toast-style sandwiches filled with cheese, ham, turkey, and mustard. Raspberry preserves are a must for him. Could be eaten for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This is a LESSER FAT Monte Cristo recipe being baked and not fried, full of flavor! I also like to buy the low salt cold cuts or use fresh-baked turkey leftovers sliced thin.

Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
8 Swiss cheese
4 Deli ham
8 Turkey
8 Eggs
8 Flour
3 Butter
2 Salt
1 Black pepper
1/4 Milk
1/4 Powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Heat your oven to 425°F.

  2. Prepare baking sheet: Lightly butter a baking sheet pan. You can also use cooking spray for convenience.

  3. Spread mustard: Spread 1/2 teaspoon of mustard on each slice of bread.

  4. Layer ingredients: On one slice of bread, layer between the mustard sides, 1 slice of cheese, 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of turkey, and another slice of cheese. Repeat to make four sandwiches.

  5. Prepare egg mixture: In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, flour, butter, salt, and black pepper until smooth. Blend in milk to create the egg mixture.

  6. Dip sandwiches: Dip both sides of the sandwiches into the egg mixture until the bread is lightly soaked.

  7. Arrange on baking sheet: Place the dipped sandwiches on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle any remaining egg mixture over the top of the sandwiches.

  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown.

  9. Flip and continue baking: Using a wide spatula, carefully turn the sandwiches and continue baking for another 8-10 minutes or until the second side is golden brown.

  10. Serve: Serve the sandwiches warm, dusted with powdered sugar. Optionally, dip or spread raspberry preserves on the sandwiches for added flavor.

  11. Garnish: Garnish with fresh raspberries for a delightful presentation.

Enjoy your delicious baked Monte Cristo sandwiches! Perfect for any time of day. 🥪🍓
