Braised Brussels Sprouts with Beer
Category: Side Dishes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Brussels sprouts | 650g |
Light beer | 130ml |
Shallot | 1 |
Butter | 50g |
Sugar | 1 tsp |
Bay leaf | 1 |
Fine salt | To taste |
Black pepper | To taste |
Instructions:
- Begin by preparing the Brussels sprouts: Remove the outer leaves and trim the hard, spiky ends of each sprout.
- Rinse the Brussels sprouts thoroughly under cold running water.
- Heat the butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Once the butter has melted, add the shallot, finely chopped, and sauté until it becomes soft and golden.
- Stir in the sugar, allowing it to dissolve and slightly caramelize.
- Add the Brussels sprouts to the pan and toss them with the shallots and butter mixture.
- Pour in the beer, and add the bay leaf, a pinch of salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine.
- Cover the pan with a lid and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Let the sprouts cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the beer to reduce and infuse the sprouts with its flavor.
- After 10 minutes, remove the lid, increase the heat slightly, and let the Brussels sprouts cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure they do not stick to the pan.
- Once the sprouts are tender and golden brown, remove from the heat and discard the bay leaf.
Serve these delicious braised Brussels sprouts as a perfect side dish with your favorite main course. The combination of buttery sweetness, the gentle bitterness of the beer, and the earthiness of the Brussels sprouts makes for a truly unique and flavorful treat!
