Brussels Sprouts Sambhar Recipe

🕒 Total Time: 25 minutes
🥘 Yield: Serves 1

Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
15 Brussels sprouts
1 chili powder
2 brown sugar
1/2 tamarind paste
1/4 water
1 curry leaves
3 turmeric
5 salt
2 mustard seeds
1 Urad Dal
jeera powder
3 chopped coriander

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Clean and cut the Brussels sprouts at the stem ends, leaving them in round shapes.

  2. Cook Toor Dal and Sprouts: In a pressure cooker, add toor dal and Brussels sprouts. Pour 3 cups of water and add turmeric. Pressure cook until you hear 2 or 3 whistles.

  3. Temper Seasonings: Place a vessel on the stove and add oil. Then, add mustard seeds, Urad Dal, and jeera powder. Allow them to splutter.

  4. Combine Dal and Sprouts: Once the seasonings splutter, add the boiled toor dal along with Brussels sprouts to the vessel.

  5. Add Flavor: Mix in sambhar powder, chili powder, brown sugar, and curry leaves. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed. Be careful not to mash the sprouts while stirring.

  6. Incorporate Tamarind Paste and Salt: Once the mixture starts boiling, add tamarind paste and salt according to taste.

  7. Garnish and Serve: Finally, add chopped coriander and switch off the stove. Cover with a lid and let it sit for a minute to allow the flavors to meld. Serve hot with rice, dosa, or idli.
