Beef Macaroni Schotel Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 225 grams elbow macaroni
  • 250 grams ground beef
  • 2 Wagyu beef sausages (optional)
  • ½ medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 200 grams full cream milk (e.g., Ultra Milk)
  • 1 package quick melt cheese or finely grated cheddar
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 liter water for boiling macaroni
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 packet ground black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Totole seasoning (or equivalent seasoning)
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Macaroni: In a large pot, bring 1 liter of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and a small amount of olive oil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, meaning it should be tender but still firm to the bite. Drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Meat Mixture: While the macaroni is boiling, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped garlic and diced onion. Sauté until fragrant and translucent.

  3. Cook the Meat: Add the ground beef and sliced Wagyu sausages (if using) to the skillet with the garlic and onion. Season with salt, ground black pepper, and Totole seasoning. Cook, stirring frequently, until the meat is browned and fully cooked.

  4. Combine Ingredients: Once the meat is cooked, pour in the full cream milk and beaten eggs. Stir well to combine and allow the mixture to heat through over low heat. Do not let it boil; just warm it gently.

  5. Mix with Macaroni: Add the cooked macaroni to the skillet with the meat mixture. Stir to ensure the macaroni is evenly coated with the meat and sauce mixture.

  6. Prepare for Baking: Transfer the macaroni and meat mixture into a baking dish. If using aluminum foil, line the dish with foil for easier cleanup. Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the top.

  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F). Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Baking times may vary depending on your oven.
