Sunday Night Supper Recipe 🌟

Description: Make this in the morning and enjoy the rest of the day. Sunday was family night and everyone was expected to be there unless they had a doctor’s note. No one ever missed the nights this was on the menu.

  • Cook Time: 1 hour
  • Prep Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes
  • Servings: 6

Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
12 Slices of Bread
2 Eggs
4 Tomatoes
2 Cups Milk
1 tsp Salt
1/8 tsp Pepper
1 tsp Dry Mustard
1 tsp Paprika
1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese
2 tbsp Butter

Instructions:

  1. Preparation: Grease a 1 1/2 qt casserole dish. Preheat your oven to 325Β°F (165Β°C).

  2. Assemble Bread Base: Lightly butter 4 slices of bread and place them buttered side down in a single layer in the greased casserole dish. Trim the slices to fit if necessary.

  3. Create Sandwiches: Butter the remaining 8 slices of bread. Slice them in half diagonally. Form sandwiches by placing 2 halves together, buttered sides facing each other.

  4. Arrange in Casserole: Stand the prepared sandwiches, point side up, in a spoke fashion over the bottom layer of bread in the casserole dish.

  5. Add Tomatoes: Between each 2 sandwiches, stand a tomato slice against the side of the casserole dish.

  6. Prepare Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, dry mustard, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.

  7. Pour Mixture: Slowly pour the mixture over the assembled bread and tomato layers, ensuring all bread surfaces are covered.

  8. Chill: Refrigerate the assembled casserole for 1 hour or more to allow the flavors to meld and the bread to absorb the liquid mixture.

  9. Bake: Once sufficiently chilled, place the casserole dish in the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 1 hour or until the mixture feels firm when the dish is gently shaken.

  10. Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. This savory Sunday Night Supper is perfect for bringing the family together in a delicious tradition!
