Chicken Carrot Nuggets (Non-MSG)

Ingredients

For the Mixture:

  • 250 grams chicken breast (boneless)
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or a mix of all-purpose and self-raising flour)
  • Water, as needed

For Dipping:

  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • Water, as needed
  • A pinch of salt and pepper

For Coating:

  • Bread crumbs (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken and Vegetables:

    • Rinse the chicken breast thoroughly and pat dry. Dice the chicken into small pieces.
    • Peel and wash the carrot and garlic. Grate the carrot and garlic using a fine grater or food processor.
  2. Blend the Mixture:

    • In a blender, combine the diced chicken, one egg, and a splash of water. Blend briefly until the chicken is coarsely chopped.
    • Add the grated carrot and garlic to the blender along with salt, black pepper, sugar, and a bit more water. Blend until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Incorporate the Flours:

    • Transfer the blended mixture to a mixing bowl. Gradually add the tapioca flour, stirring continuously to combine.
    • Add the all-purpose flour, mixing until fully incorporated. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  4. Steam the Mixture:

    • Prepare a steamer by adding a small amount of water to the bottom. Grease a baking dish or tray with a thin layer of butter.
    • Pour the chicken mixture into the prepared dish. Steam for approximately 20 minutes or until firm and cooked through.
  5. Cool and Slice:

    • After steaming, allow the mixture to cool before removing it from the dish. Slice into nugget-sized pieces.
  6. Prepare the Dipping Mixture:

    • In a bowl, combine one tablespoon of all-purpose flour with one beaten egg and a little water. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Coat the Nuggets:

    • Place bread crumbs in a separate shallow dish. Dip each nugget piece into the dipping mixture, then coat thoroughly with bread crumbs.
  8. Freeze for Crispiness:

    • Arrange the breaded nuggets on a tray and place them in an airtight container. Freeze for a short while to firm up.
  9. Fry the Nuggets:

    • Heat oil in a deep pan over low to medium heat. Fry the nuggets until golden brown and crispy, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
  10. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Your homemade chicken carrot nuggets are ready to be enjoyed. Serve hot and watch the delight on your family’s faces!

These chicken carrot nuggets are a delightful and healthier alternative to store-bought options, made with fresh ingredients and no added MSG. The process may take a bit of time, but the result is a satisfying treat that both kids and adults will love. Enjoy the satisfaction of making a meal that’s not only nutritious but also sure to bring smiles to the table!
