Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Gurame fish 1/2 kg
Carrots 2 (julienned)
Red shallots 5 cloves
Garlic 4 cloves
Tomato 1
Large chili pepper To taste
Small chili pepper To taste
Chili sauce 2 sachets
Ketchup To taste (preferably bottled)
Cornstarch As needed
Turmeric To taste
Salt To taste
Sugar To taste
Black pepper To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Begin by grinding the turmeric and salt together with a little water. Marinate the Gurame fish in this mixture for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to penetrate the flesh. After marinating, fry the fish in hot oil until golden brown and crispy. Set aside.

  2. Make the Sweet and Sour Sauce: In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped red shallots, garlic, and tomato until fragrant. Add the julienned carrots and stir-fry briefly.

  3. Add Seasonings: Pour in the chili sauce and adjust the taste with salt, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well, and let it cook for a minute.

  4. Thicken the Sauce: Dissolve the cornstarch in a bit of water and add to the skillet. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens, then remove from heat.

  5. Serve: Arrange the fried Gurame fish on a serving plate, generously pour the sweet and sour sauce over the fish, and garnish with additional vegetables if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
