Crispy Gurame with Salsa Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized gurame fish (also known as gourami)
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 4 shallots
  • Tomato ketchup (to taste)
  • Chili sauce (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 10 red chilies (finely ground)
  • 1 lime
  • Cooking oil
  • 1 tomato
  • 120 ml water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:
Begin by cleaning the gurame fish thoroughly. Slice both sides of the fish to create wing-like flaps. Season with a bit of salt and squeeze over the juice of the lime. Let the fish marinate for a few minutes.

  2. Fry the Fish:
Heat oil in a pan until hot. Place the marinated gurame fish upright in the pan, allowing the wing-like sides to crisp up. Fry until golden and crispy. Once cooked, remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.

  3. Make the Salsa Sauce:

    • Finely chop the shallots, garlic, onion, tomato, and both bell peppers.
    • Grind the red chilies into a paste.
    • Heat oil in a separate pan. Sauté the garlic, shallots, and onion until fragrant and golden brown.
    • Add the ground chilies, tomato ketchup, and chili sauce to the pan. Stir well.
    • Incorporate the chopped red and green bell peppers, and diced tomato into the mixture. Season with salt (and a bit of sugar if you prefer less heat).
    • Pour in the water and stir. Allow the sauce to simmer until all the ingredients are well combined and cooked through.
  4. Serve:
Place the crispy gurame fish on a serving plate and generously pour the salsa sauce over the top. Serve immediately and enjoy!

This recipe presents a delightful combination of crispy fried fish with a vibrant, spicy salsa sauce that adds a burst of flavor to every bite. Perfect for a special occasion or a flavorful family dinner!
