Crispy Indonesian Tahu Fritters

Ingredients:

  • 10 medium-sized white tofu (tahu putih), mashed with a spoon or by hand
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 stalks green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, coarsely grated
  • 3 tablespoons fritter flour (tepung bakwan)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed tofu, egg, green onions, celery, and grated carrot. Stir in the fritter flour, salt, and black pepper until all ingredients are well integrated.

  2. Shape and Fry: Using your hands or a spoon, form small balls or patties from the mixture. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the formed fritters into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding.

  3. Cook Until Golden: Fry the fritters until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, approximately 3-4 minutes per side. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  4. Serve and Enjoy: These crispy tahu fritters are ready to be enjoyed as a delicious side dish or snack. Serve warm and savor the crunchy texture and savory flavor.

This recipe highlights the delightful taste of traditional Indonesian tofu fritters, perfect for a satisfying addition to any meal. Enjoy the crispy exterior and tender interior of these homemade treats!
