Perkedel Tahu (Indonesian Tofu Fritters)

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Aromatic Seasoning: Begin by finely grinding the shallots, garlic, and ground pepper until you achieve a smooth paste. This will serve as the flavor base for the tofu fritters.

  2. Mash the Tofu: In a separate bowl, thoroughly mash the tofu until it becomes soft and smooth. Once done, mix in the freshly ground seasoning paste, ensuring everything is well combined.

  3. Mix in the Egg: Crack the egg into the tofu mixture and add a pinch of salt. Stir everything together until the mixture is well blended. If you enjoy a burst of extra flavor, feel free to add chopped green onions at this stage. (Note: This step can be skipped if serving to those who prefer the fritters without green onions.)

  4. Shape and Fry: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Scoop out spoonfuls of the tofu mixture and gently shape them into small patties. Fry the patties in the hot oil until they turn golden brown on both sides. Be sure to flip them carefully to avoid breaking.
