Tahu Gulung Goreng: A Crispy Indonesian Delight
Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Tahu Putih (Tofu) | 2 pieces |
Carrots | 3, diced small |
Eggs | 3 |
Green Onions | 4 stalks, finely chopped |
Salt | To taste |
Pepper | To taste |
Chicken Bouillon Powder (optional) | To taste |
Egg for frying | 1 |
Banana Leaves | For wrapping |
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Tofu: Begin by mashing the tofu until smooth. Transfer it to a colander lined with a cloth or mesh to drain excess moisture, pressing down gently to expedite the process. Set aside.
-
Prep the Vegetables: Peel and dice the carrots into small cubes. Finely chop the green onions and combine with the carrots.
-
Mix the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained tofu, diced carrots, chopped green onions, eggs, salt, pepper, and chicken bouillon powder (if using). Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
-
Wrap the Mixture: Lay out banana leaves on a clean surface. Place a generous spoonful of the tofu mixture in the center of each leaf and wrap it up securely, similar to how you would wrap a lontong (rice cake). Repeat this step until all the mixture is used.
-
Steam the Rolls: Arrange the wrapped rolls in a steamer and steam for about 30 minutes. Once done, remove them from the steamer and let cool slightly before unwrapping.
-
Fry the Rolls: Slice the steamed rolls into round pieces. Dip each piece into beaten egg and fry in hot oil over medium heat until golden brown and crispy.
-
Serve: Serve your delicious Tahu Gulung Goreng hot, accompanied by sambal or fresh chili for dipping.
